Ever since Eve took that first bite of the apple, the human race has been obessed with beauty.

The truth is we begin the aging process just as soon as we pop out of the womb. Every day of our lives our bodies slough off and regenerate new cells. The speed at which that process takes place when we are children is vastly different as we get older.

Every day you are bombarded daily with commercial messages and beauty tips that attempt to lure you into believing that the most recent miracle drug is just what you need to fight off the ravages of Mother Nature.

We are living longer as a whole. Singularly, that can be a curse or a blessing, depending on your perspective. The best route to natural beauty and healthy skin is to take care of what you have. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? The truth is that your skin takes a beating from the environment every single day. Here are some of our favorite beauty tips for keeping your skin fresh and healthy:

1: Stay hydrated and do it with plenty of water! That does not mean soda, caffeine or any other type of liquid, even if it is low cal. Soda (even diet soda) has a high concentration of sodium. Sodium retains fluids. You need fluid that will hydrate and flush your body free of toxins. Make sure you are drinking at least 8 glasses a day!

2: Protect your skin from harmful ultra violet (UV) rays. We all love the sun. We love being in it and we love having a beautiful tan. The truth is you can poison yourself with too much sunshine. UV rays cause skin cancer and if that isn’t bad enough it causes your skin to age faster than it should, contributing to unsightly wrinkles. If you must play in the sun, make certain you are using an adequate sun screen. Don’t leave home without it!

3: Keep your skin clean. Use a soft warm cloth. Skin does not require scrubbing. You will do more harm than good if you do.

4: The best cure for wrinkles is to never have them in the first place! If you are like most of us, you didn’t listen to your Mom when she tried to tell you to stay in the shade, stand up straight and stop squinting!

5: Eat healthy. Knowing how and what to eat, can make a huge difference in how you feel. Improper eating habits can cause depression, weight gain, illness and an overall lethargy.

Weight gain causes your skin to stretch. As you get older, it loses it’s elasticity and you’re left with sagging skin. The best solution to this is to maintain a proper weight.

A rule of thumb for eating habits are…don’t eat more calories than you consume. Don’t go one single day without doing something extra and physical for at least 30 minutes per day. This can be three ten minute walks. Or 30 minutes of vigorous aerobics, or 12 minutes of weight lifting and 18 minutes of walking.

6: Don’t worry, be happy. A happy outlook appears to trigger the release of endorphins. Endorphins relax the cardiovascular system and cytokines which alert the immune system to pay attention in detecting abnormalities like cancer cells. Listen carefully to yourself. If you have put yourself down since childhood, over a lifetime, negative subliminal messages can take their toll by turning you into a pessimist. Spend one week writing down the phrases you use in your “self talk.” Chances are you will find that you repeat a dozen or so phrases over and over again that reinforce that negative image. If you know about them, you can change them. Outer beauty and inner joy go hand in hand.

Here are a few quick tips for increasing joy, hope and optimism that will work no matter what your age:

Make a list of at least 50 great things that happen to you every day.

Laugh a lot. You’ll heal your body and your mind.

Discover a new challenge each month.

Try meditating for just five minutes each day.

7: Sex After 50 – Ha! How many of you jumped ahead to this section?

The importance of physical intimacy actually depends on the couple. An alarming number of men used to give up on sex after 60 and many women used to feel that their sex life ended with menopause. Thankfully, that is no longer the case.

Sex at middle age can actually become better and more satisfying than ever before. Maturity gives a couple more experience in lovemaking. The children are usually grown and left home. The pressures of building a career and day to day life are usually less stressful than in younger years.

Is beauty really skin deep?

The answer is yes and no. It’s a paradox, isn’t it? True beauty begins from the inside out. Don’t you wish there was some way to “wriggle your nose” and regain that soft skin you had as a child? Well, until someone comes up with the true “Fountain of Youth” we are stuck with what we have.

Just remember that getting older doesn’t have to mean getting old.

Full, soft, inviting lips. Want them? We all do, and now we all can have them. Here’s the kiss and tell on luscious lips.

#1 Hands off. Let’s start simple, with a line you may have heard in your youth. Mom always told you and so will we – stop biting and licking your lips. It smears your color and irritates your lips. Keep utensils and pens away from your lips. It’ll keep your pucker pretty and keep lipstick off your teeth.

#2 Hydrate yourself inside and out. Water, water, everywhere. Be sure to drink your share. You know you need to drink at least eight glasses of water a day. Here’s another reason to do it. Water is vital to tissue health.

#3 Protect your lips from wind and sun damage. Always wear lip balm with a SPF of 15 or higher. Always. And, don’t forget your lip balm. It moisturizes your lips and serves as a base for your lip color. Wear it in place of lip color on no make-up days. Worn under your lipstick, it’ll even help extend the life of your color.

#4 Lip liner can be a lifesaver. Lip liner serves two main purposes. It solves size and shape problems. It reins in your color. Thin lips? Following the lip line, outline your natural lip shape slightly beyond the edge of your lip. Thick lips? Lucky you. If you think they’re too thick (is there really such a thing?), try the opposite. Following your lip line, outline your natural lip shape just inside the edge of your lip.

Lining your lips helps keep your lip color from seeping out to the skin around your mouth. So, if your lipstick seems to migrate, then lip liner can keep it in place. One caveat to using lip liner: Your lip liner should not actually be visible once your lipstick is applied. So, choose your lip liner carefully. If the world sees an outline around your mouth, you’re using the wrong liner.

#5 Lip color sends a message. The color you choose says something about how you view yourself and how you want others to view you. What does your favorite lip color say?

Pale pink: pretty and sweet.
Red: chic or daring.
Coral: fiery and adventurous.
Brown tones: classic and timeless.

In fact, browns are a universally great choice. Every mouth can wear brown.

#6 Get glossy. Lip gloss is not just for teens. A little gloss worn on low-key days brightens up your face. Lip gloss applied over your daytime makeup transforms you into a party girl. Lip gloss dotted just in the center of your lips creates a pouty look.

Your lips are ready… are you? You’ve pampered, primed, lined and colored yourself all the way to a perfect pair of lips. So pucker up …

Hair Care Professional- Breaking One In

Beauty Salon- It is so important for us to find the right beauty salon so that we can have the right look at the right time. However, there are certain things that beauty salon owners don’t want you to know.

According to the September 13, 2005 issue of the LA Times, soon after Hurricane Katrina passed through the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama beauty salons with power and water reopened. Women who had lost EVERYTHING flocked to those open beauty salons. They wanted to look good even though they did not have a place to live. They wanted and needed professional hair care.

This fact alone confirms your intuition about the absolute necessity of finding the right beauty salon. This holds true for a beauty salon Santa Monica, or a beauty salon Long Beach, Mississippi.

Let me give you some general guidelines and tips to use when you are looking for a new beauty salon. I will also include some helpful suggestions about how to deal with your hair stylist.

1. How far is the beauty salon from your home or work? Is it convenient to either or both?

2. Telephone the salon. Ask if their hair care stylists have experience with your type of hair. For example, is your hair long, curly, textured or exposed to frequent changes to hair color, heat and the elements?

3. Search the Internet for reviews of beauty salons in your work or home zip codes.

4. It seems obvious, but it’s crucial: Who do you know whose hair looks fabulous? Ask them where (and to whom) they go.

5. When you get to the beauty salon what does the atmosphere FEEL like to you? Is it peaceful or stressful? Which do you prefer?

6. Are you greeted right away or are you forced to wander around or “twiddle your thumbs” until someone attends to you?

7. If you’ve made an appointment is it kept?

8. Is the beauty salon clean and well organized? Does everything seem to be in its place?

9. How is the staff dressed? Are they dressed appropriately to your taste?

10. What does the hair of the staff look like to you? Is the hair of the staff professionally done or is it sloppy?

Ok, you’ve decided that the beauty salon environment is satisfactory, now how do you deal with the hair stylist?

11. Collect and bring pictures that are appropriate for your type of hair. The biggest beauty salon hair disasters occur when your hair stylist doesn’t understand what you want. Pictures help convey your message.

12. Don’t immediately go for a cut, take it slower. Book a blow-dry with your selected stylist. Ask, if you were to cut my hair, how would you do it? Once you’ve set aside the time for a real consultation, here are some key questions to ask yourself as you talk to your stylist:

• DO YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE with the hair care stylist? You should like his or her sense of style. This means clothing, grooming, personality, everything.

• IS THE STYLIST ASKING YOU questions, giving ideas and suggestions that relate to your personality, rather than pointing to a style on the wall or in a book?

• IS THE HAIR CARE STYLIST ADDRESSING the health of your hair, not just proposing to cut off split ends? The two of you should be talking about conditioners and rinses that enhance shine and bounce, and special treatments that can prevent or repair damage done by the environment, such as pollution, sun, chlorine, humidity, or dry air.

• ONCE YOU’VE AGREED ON A LOOK, does the stylist preview how you’ll need to blow it dry, wash it, and maintain it? These are all things to think about before actually getting the cut.

If you can answer most of the questions to your satisfaction, then you’ve probably found a beauty salon and a hair stylist that will make you look fabulous. If you cannot, then move on to the next beauty salon on your list.

Take the above tips with you when you come to Next Salon in Santa Monica, CA. We think that you’ll find that you came to the right beauty salon.

Are those fine lines and wrinkles worrying you? Before you do anything drastic…

Do you know that just taking care of your skin routinely can make a noticeable difference in its appearance?

There are five little steps for creating and maintaining healthy skin. They are to cleanse, exfoliate (lightly), freshen or tone, moisturize and protect. Treat your face, twice a day, to steps one through four. Seem too complicated? Some skin care products combine the first three into one timesaving step so all you have to do afterwards is moisturize. (Once a week, exfoliate your face more thoroughly to get rid of any build up of dead surface cells which can dull the appearance of your skin. Then carefully hydrate the newer cells to replace any lost moisture.)

Each morning, add step five to your regime. Protect your skin by using a sunscreen or sun block and then adding a foundation. Foundation helps to shield your face by providing a layer between your skin and the environment. The first trick it to match the color as closely as possible to your jaw line and neck. The second trick is to put on just enough foundation to smooth lightly and easily over your face (preferably with a sponge). Instead of covering up signs of aging, thick foundation settles into and emphasizes the fine lines and wrinkles you want to minimize.

There’s an urban myth that each time you sleep with your makeup on your skin ages by 11 days. Scary thought, isn’t it? Within two weeks of establishing a routine of caring for your face, you should start to reverse the effects of bad habits and see the results in clearer and smoother skin.

Once the appearance of your skin improves, makeup can be used as an enhancement rather than as a “mask.”

Like foundation, too much concealer will detract from its intent. Concealer should be applied very lightly on under eye circles and blemishes and then blended well with your foundation

For eye color, choose warmer tones over cooler ones, lighter shades over darker, and matte consistencies over those with sparkle … they’re less aging and “kinder” to your face.

For eyeliners and eye brow pencils, select a shade of gray or brown or a complementary color rather than black. They’re more natural (unless your hair is black) and look much softer. To emphasize your eyes, line only the top lid and apply extra mascara on your lower lashes. Then “open” your eyes with an eyelash curler.

For cheeks and lips, the most becoming colors are usually the ones that complement your natural warm skin tones.

Highlight either your eyes or your lips (but not both) then enjoy the visual effect of clearer, smoother skin with subtle makeup!

How can you keep your skin soft and supple?

Fall. Morning. It is dark, chilly and looks like it hasn’t stopped raining yet. However, it is time to get up, to go out and…to look your BEST! Why? Because a real woman ALWAYS looks $1mln!

Even when it is misty, cold and rainy :)

So, here is our simple fall skin care advice that will help you to be as beautiful as ever no matter what:

1. Switch from lotion based products to those that are cream based.

This will help restore moisture as well as create a protective barrier against the harsh winter weather. Exceptions to this rule include those with severely oily skin and some acne patients.

2. Keep your house warm, not hot. Set your thermostat a little lower and crack a window to let fresh, cool air into the house.

3. Set a pan of water in commonly used rooms. The water will evaporate from the pan before it evaporates from your skin.

4. Use a vaporizer in the bedroom while you sleep.

5. Shower only once a day using a mild soap. Pat dry and apply a gentle moisturizer immediately afterward. Your doctor can recommend skin-friendly soaps and moisturizers.

6. Apply extra moisturizer to your body, face and hands before bedtime to heal damage overnight.

7. Moisturize your hands after you wash them.

8.Try a richer moisturizer if your regular brand doesn’t work as well in the wintertime.

9.Use barrier gloves to protect your hands when you do chores, especially dishwashing. For an especially soothing treatment, apply moisturizer, put on white cotton gloves, and cover with yellow rubber gloves. Wear these layers around the house for a few hours or while you sleep.

10. Use lip balm to prevent chapping. Reapply after you eat and before you go outdoors.

11. See your physician if your skin is extremely irritated or infected.

Wondering what the biggest secret to your success is in your Petite Modeling Career? If you’re a petite or average sized model, or wanting to become one then this article is for you.

The #1 key to success in the modeling industry, whether you’re 5′ 9" or 5′ 2" is to get your face in front of thousands of clients with a real modeling job. In a word; Tearsheets.

Tearsheets are the pages you have torn out of magazines that feature you as the model or one of the models within the photos. As a petite or average size model the type of tear sheets you would find work for range from advertisements for everything and anything you can imagine to articles about hair, skin and nail care, beauty and self improvement tips, exercise, fitness and diet articles.

Tearsheets are your ticket to launching yourself into the spot light as a professional and workable model. They say to potential clients; "I can get the job done". Having at least one tearsheet in your portfolio shows the client you have work experience and have done the job of a professional model.

So how do you get these coveted model shoots that will feature you? The most obvious way is with an agency, but unfortunately most modeling agencies do not sign models that are under 5′ 9" So going this route takes patience and persistance. The second way is to work with modeling magazines directly. Most modeling magazines can’t be found on the shelves of your local grocery store for two reasons.

First, because they are not of general interest to the average consumer and do not sell enough from a magazine stand to justify distributing them in this way. Second, because most of the magazines are geared toward the side of the modeling industry that are looking for models.

Most of the readers of the magazines are reading it to find models they need to represent their products or for photo shoots for their own magazines. This is why appearing in one of these magazines is so beneficial to modeling hopefuls.

Getting the magazine to feature you as model is as simple as sending in your photos and waiting for them to call you. Of course there aren’t very many of them around and they are extermely hard to find unless you are already on the inside of the industry.

Further, many of these magazines only accept photos from modeling agencies making it much harder to get you photos out there. But it’s not impossible, and if you’re thinking of boosting your career this is definately something you should look in to.

Reducing wrinkles is a major concern for both women and men. Wrinkling is a fact of life that affects all people, but certain lifestyle choices can make wrinkles appear sooner. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation, either from the sun or the use of tanning beds is a major cause of premature aging of the skin. In addition, doing this can cause malignant melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.

Other Lifestyle Choices that Affect Your Skin:

  • Smoking increases wrinkles and ages your skin. Don’t smoke and if you do, quit to reduce both damage to your skin and your overall health.

  • Diet can affect your skin. Eat a healthy diet that includes a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. These are antioxidant rich foods that can help keep your skin firmer longer.
  • Dehydration can increase wrinkling. Drink plenty of water to hydrate your body and skin. You should have a minimum of eight glasses of water every day.
  • Avoid alcohol, which causes the skin to sag and become puffy. People who drink a lot of alcohol often look older than those who don’t drink at all, or only drink occasionally. For your skin, the worst time to consume alcohol is before bed.
  • Excessive stress affects your skin. Do what you can to reduce the stress in your life. Relaxation techniques, yoga, prayer, reading the Bible and meditation are excellent ways to reduce stress. This will help you look and feel better.
  • Don’t sleep on your face, but on your back instead. Sleeping on your face increases wrinkling and increases the effects of gravity on your skin.
  • Take good care of your skin to help combat the signs of aging. Don’t over wash your face; limit washing to twice each day. This is especially true if your tap water contains chlorine or other chemicals used in water purification. Consider having a water filter installed, or use purified water to wash your face, if you find the chlorine irritating. Never wash in very hot water, which is drying.

Use only mild facial cleansers that contain moisturizing ingredients. Stay away from soap, especially deodorant soaps, which are very drying to the skin. After you have washed your face, pat dry and use a moisturizer. Look for products that are oil free. Water based lotion is best for moisturizing the skin without clogging your pores.

Antioxidants help reduce the signs of aging on your skin. These are found in food, vitamins and skin care products. The best sources are vitamin A, C, E. Antioxidants destroy free radicals, which cause cellular damage, age the skin and cause skin cancer. There is evidence that they work best when combined. For example, vitamins C and E work better together than either vitamin alone. Vitamin A is often found in both prescription and over the counter topical ointments.

Retin A is a prescription topical cream that contains vitamin A. a prescription is needed from the dermatologist for this medication. Retin A treats wrinkling caused by aging and sun exposure. It takes between two and six months to see noticeable improvement. Side effects include redness, burning, itching and scaling, which can last for a few months. In addition, it can cause photosensitivity. You should avoid sunlight and wear a sunscreen when outside in the sun. Pregnant women should not use this cream, as it can cause birth defects in the unborn child.

Retinol is a natural form of vitamin A. It is found in over the counter ointments. There are fewer side effects with Retinol than with the stronger Retin A. Using antioxidant creams containing vitamin C or E may increase the benefits of retinol. These are sometimes found combined in one cream, or can be applied separately.

If you want to see results sooner, consider a skin peel. You will see results fast, without having to wait several months for improvement. In the past, peels were only available from a dermatologist or esthetician. There is now a wonderful TCA peel for home use. Esthetician’s Choice takes just a few minutes to apply and gives fast results. You will notice slight reddening of the skin for a day or so. The skin will then peel, revealing a younger looking complexion. Visit http://www.bestskinpeel.com for information on Esthetician’s Choice and ordering information.

Here you will find the beauty, make up and cosmetics tips for your look and feel gorgeous during the holidays and throughout the winter season.

CLEANSING the skin properly, especially the face, is fundamental to good skin care. Oil-based makeup, which is preferred by those with drier complexions, should be removed with oil-based cleansing creams. Never go to bed without removing your makeup and thoroughly cleansing your face.

BEFORE makeup is applied, moisturizer should be applied to the face and neck after thorough cleansing. Moisturizers will keep you looking younger with smoother skin. The best time to apply moisturizer is right after you wash or shower, when the skin is damp and the moisturizer can seal in the moisture.

FOUNDATION is very important to one’s overall beauty. Foundation is used to enhance the color of the complexion. Choose a foundation to match your skin tone. Using the right foundation makes your skin look flawless and smooth. Choose the shade closest to your skin tone by testing it on your jaw line. When applying the foundation, be sure to blend it into the hairline and neckline to achieve a consistent tone. Set the foundation by brushing it with loose powder that matches the foundation and the color of your skin.

LIPS especially take a beating during bad weather. A good lipstick will moisturize the lips and shield them from the sun without interfering with the final sheen or finish of the lipstick. Keep your kissers moisturized with vitamin E oil, petroleum jelly or a lip balm or gloss.

NAILS that are beautiful certainly will enhance your overall festive appearance. Our nails are designed to protect the fleshy fingertip and help us manipulate small object. Remove dirt lodged underneath nails. Nails are polished with a buffer. This improves blood circulation and gives nails a shine. Two coats of nail polish and a topcoat later.
