If you’ve ever stood in the aisle of the skincare section of your favorite cosmetics department looking for a face cream to help you look younger and healthier, you know how confusing it can be to find a product that will help improve the look and texture of your skin.

As confusing as it is, science and research have become our best friends in the quest for younger looking skin, and the quest isn’t over, there are promising new studies and clinical tests every day that help us understand what it takes to stay looking young and youthful.

Then why are we so confused about what we need?

According to consumer industry tracker Packaged Facts, the 2004 U.S. skincare sales reached $6.4 billion and is expected to reach over $9 billion by the year 2010. If you consider all the skincare manufacturers competing for their share of the industry it’s not surprising that we fall prey to the more prominent marketing hype and miss the actual research findings.

The best advice is to do your homework. Understand what your needs are and be realistic about the results. Don’t expect a magic potion that will erase years off your face in a few days. It took years for those lines and wrinkles to develop, it isn’t practical to expect they will disappear in a few days.

It’s also important to remember that the aging process can only be slowed down, it can’t be reversed. Everyone experiences different levels of improvement. Skin care experts have found it reasonable to expect about a 30% improvement over the course of six to eight weeks time.

The best place to start is to identify what your skin care needs are. Read the labels and understand what the ingredients do.

Depending on what doctors, specialists and advertisers you talk to, you’re likely to get differing answers but if you do your homework by researching the ingredients and using products as prescribed, you will most likely see a difference.

Here are a few facts on the most popular ingredients.

AHA - Alpha Hydroxy Acids AHA’s are used as a skin exfoliator. It can clear pores and rid the skin of dead cells. Beta Hydroxy or salicylic acids are often used for acne prone skin but can be a bit drying. Experts seem to agree that AHA’s are an excellent skin exfoliator but it is questionable as an anti-aging ingredient.

Copper Peptides It is not conclusive as to whether copper peptides can reduce the aging process by reducing wrinkles and other signs of aging in the skin. It may be possible since copper peptides seem to stimulate the production of collagen in unscarred skin and help reduce skin inflammation, however there is a lack of clinical evidence and more extensive research studies are needed before the experts can agree completely on these claims.

Green Tea Teas, be it black, white or green contain antioxidants which are clinically known to fight off free radicals. Most skin care experts agree that these teas can help decrease inflammation and swelling of the skin and can also decrease the effects of UV exposure. Skin care products that contain antioxidant teas are often recommended.

Hyaluronic Acid Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant that occurs naturally in humans, animals and in young skin, however aging, smoking and dieting can result in its loss.

Hyaluronic Acid has often been used as an injected lubricant for osteoarthritis and other ailments. When applied topically, it helps retain moisture and has been used to plump the skin. Experts can agree that it is excellent in helping retain moisture but are unsure of its long-lasting value.

Kinetin Kinetin is a plant-growth hormone, and its technical name is N6-furfuryladenine. Kinetin can offer temporary hydrating benefits, however further applications of kinetin need to be investigated. Kinetin is probably best used as a preventive measure as opposed to reducing the look of aging.

Retinol Most experts seem to agree that Retinol, (a derivative of Vitamin A) and tretinoin (Retinol’s stronger counterpart) which is the active ingredient in Retin-A and Renova, are the most effective ingredients in the fight against anti-aging. They can help regenerate collagen to reduce lines and wrinkles, and help lighten dark spots, freckles and sun damaged skin.

Absorption is a key factor in using retinol so it is recommended that using a combination of retinol and palmitic acid (retinyl palmitate) be used for proper penetration at the cellular level, however if you use retinyl palmitate you will need to use more of this product than one that contains retinol to get the same effect.

Retin-A can cause skin sensitivity in which case retinol is an excellent alternative.

Soy It is believed that soy has mild skin rejuvenating effects as it contains botanically-based estrogen. IT contains anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory that soothe the skin but there are no anti-aging elements to soy.

Completely healthy does not only mean being the perfect weight, no it means much more than that.

There are a lot of people out there who exercise nearly every day, weigh what they are suppose to and look just great.

But does that mean, that they are completely healthy? No, not neccessarily. So what is needed to be of total health?

If you are a couch potatoe and your only excercise is walking to the pantry to get something to snack on and are 30 pounds overweight, I am sure you realize that you can’t attain great health.

Look at the Hunza people for example, they are extremely healthy and attain longevity through their lifestyle.

The Hunza people live in the Himalayas and eat only twice a day, at midday, even though they usually get up at five in the morning, and at dinner time.

And of course it is very important what you eat. Obesety is unknown amongst the Hunzas. They have a special bread, which is eaten with every meal and seems to be the key to their longevity.

I have not mentioned yet how old the Hunzas get. Would you believe, that it is not unusual for them to become 130 years old.

And yes, they do exercise daily, they take regular walks,a 15 to 20 kilometer hike is considered quite normal.

The question here would be, is longevity and health like that obtainable to us in the western world? I like to believe that it is.

So, what is important to be completely healthy? Exercise, absolutely! But if you don’t have time to go to the gym, don’t worry, or you might be just like me and don’t like to go to the gym.

A brisk walk every day (a dog certainly helps with that)and a bit of stretching will do the trick.

And of course our diet is a extremely important factor to our health, fresh fruit and vegetable (preferably organic), only very little meat and whole grain. Those are the very basics.

We tend to forget our mental health, it is a crucial part to being completely healthy. Every day is a new day and we need to be willing to meet each task with a positive attitude.

A great way to start a new day is to meditate. It does not have to be for long, 10-15 mins. will do and will put you in the right frame of mind to have a great day.

An other great tool for your mental health are affirmations. Or start a journal take some time out every day and write down what you have experienced and your feelings.

When you go for a walk, enjoy nature conciously, be grateful for the little things in life.

Every day we can find something to be grateful for. We are here to enjoy life and the more we do, the more it helps us to be and stay healthy in body, mind and spirit.

Choosing the right hair product for your particular hair style and texture can be confusing, especially with all of the hair care product advertisements we are bombarded with on a daily basis. With each commercial, each glossy ad, and each retail display case, companies do their best to convince us that their hair product has just what it takes to take our Medusa locks and turn them into tresses fit for the runway. But can they really do all that they promise? And how do you know which ones are worth investing in and which ones belong in the recycling bin?

Granted, hair products can do wonders when it comes to making your do look the best that it can. But you need to choose the right products or you else you may find yourself rinsing your money right down the drain with your latest expensive hair care product.

Must have hair products

Depending on your hair type, there are several hair products that are essential for everyone.

First, you need a good shampoo that is tailored to your specific hair type. While you don’t have to spend a lot of money here, make sure to choose a hair product that contains no waxy substances. Waxy substances are used in many of the over-counter hair care products on the market today. If you are unsure which ones contain wax, stick with a professional shampoo. Truly professional shampoos can be found in salons only.

Next, you will need a professional conditioning hair product. If you need to cut costs by purchasing an over-the-counter hair care product, do it with the shampoo, not with your conditioner. Yes, you may spend a few extra dollars, but your hair will thank you for it. Make sure that your conditioner is tailored to your specific hair type. For example: If you have chemically damaged hair, choose a hair product that repairs and strengthens damaged hair.

Lastly, you will need various styling hair products. The ones you choose will depend largely on your style. A good rule of thumb to follow is this: use mousse for light, carefree and blow-dried styles; gel for curly and wet-looking styles; and pomade for textured, funky and spiked styles. A hair spray with the desired hold should be used to finish off each style.

Expensive verses inexpensive hair care products

I’m a firm believer in that you get what you pay for, but that line seems to get blurred when dealing with professional hair products. Most people believe that when they buy hair products from salons that they are going to end up paying a great deal of money for something that they can pick up in the corner drug store for half the price. But this is not the case.

The main differences between professional and non-professional hair care products are in the quality of the products, not the pricing. I have seen high-quality professional hair products sell for as little as $5 a bottle, the same price that you would pay for many non-professional products. So, you can get a great deal on professional products. The bottom line is that no matter what the price, professional is better.

Now, are high-priced professional hair products better than the inexpensive ones? The answer is surprisingly no. While some professional lines may have individual products that are perfect for your hair and well worth the high price tag, most professional hair care product lines, even the inexpensive ones, have everything that you would ever need to make your hair gorgeous.

So, stop looking at the price tag and glamorous ads and start looking at the back of the bottle to find out what hair products are perfect for you. And if in doubt, ask your stylist.

A quick web search on the term "graceful aging" brings up phrases like:

Combat the signs of aging.
Who said that we have to age?
Defy the aging process.

These phrases reflect the fact that most of us look at aging as something to be resisted for as long as possible. Regardless of how liberated we’ve become, many women and men still experience aging as a threat to their sense of self worth and quality of life.

To age gracefully in a culture which idolizes youth requires inner strength and wisdom. I’ve discovered two basic requirements of graceful aging. To borrow from the Serenity Prayer, graceful aging requires the "serenity to accept the things we cannot change; courage to change the things we can; and wisdom to know the difference".

Certainly acceptance of aging is a key to aging gracefully — but which of the changes that commonly come with age are the things we cannot change and which are the things we can change?

Aging Factors We Cannot Change

One thing we absolutely cannot change is the fact that every day brings us closer to death. This one fact alone may account for a great deal of our difficulty with aging. As soon as we see signs of aging, we are reminded that this body is eventually going to die. As we age, we come face to face with our mortality, and to deal with this we must rely upon our spiritual resources. Our spiritual health may well be measured by how we face the fact of our mortality.

There is more of a gray area when it comes to identifying what else we cannot change, as we are only now starting to make scientific discoveries about the aging process. Nevertheless, there are some changes that are clearly inevitable as we age. With menopause, both male and female, we begin to live with a different hormonal environment. The appearance and function of our body changes and we must adapt. Our roles change dramatically as our children grow older and leave home, and we become grandparents rather than parents. At some point, many of us become parents to our parents as they enter their final years.

Growing older also brings more loss. Not only is there loss of many aspects of being young, more people we know die. This may be one of the most difficult aspects of aging. If we haven’t learned to grieve earlier in life, the all-important tasks of living with loss must be learned to avoid psychological and health problems.

What We Can Change: The Myths of Aging Revealed

Now that we’ve outlined a few of the inevitable aspects of aging, let’s look at some myths about aging to reveal things that can be changed. Attitude has an enormous role in how we age. Since much of the decline that people experience with aging comes about due to the belief that this decline is inevitable, examining these myths can help to free us to live happier, more vital lives as we age.

Myth #1 – The older I get, the worse my body will feel. The increasing stiffness and aches & pains that often come with age are not a result of age, but are due to lack of movement (if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it). Although there are some changes in our tissues as we age, we can continue to remain remarkably flexible and free of pain through something as simple as regular stretching.

Myth #2 – It’s too late to start taking care of myself — it won’t do any good at this age. A healthy lifestyle has been found to be one of the most important factors in how we age. Improvements in lifestyle (with the 3 key areas being good food, exercise and regular relaxation and rest) have been shown to bring improvements at any age.

Myth #3 – I’m getting too old to learn new things — Research shows that older people can, and do, learn new things. Attitude plays an important role here — if you think you can’t, you won’t try. People who believe they can learn new things do!

Myth #4 – Sex is only for the young. People can, and do, continue to enjoy sex well into their senior years. We are sexual beings throughout the life cycle, but sexuality is experienced differently at different ages. Changes in hormones will affect our experience of sex, and we may need to find different ways to be intimate. Relaxation is key here so that we don’t panic when things don’t happen the way they used to. We’re not over the hill, but simply need to give ourselves some breathing room to become familiar with our changing physiologies.

Myth #5 – The older I get, the less attractive I become. There is nothing more attractive than someone who has aged well. Haven’t you ever noticed that special radiance of an older person who is at peace with themselves and life? Attractiveness has absolutely nothing to do with age!

It’s never too late to change the two most important ingredients to graceful aging – attitude and lifestyle. Some of the most effective lifestyle changes are the simplest. Relaxation and stretching are extremely effective tools for successful aging. You can start with either of them right now. Incorporating these two simple things in your daily routine can make a world of difference in how you age!

North America accounts for only 7% of the world’s population but dominates the world’s GDP.

What we’ve actually gained is a stressed-out nation and the highest cancer rates, more than anyone else in the world. We’re producing less children, some sociologist claim that it is fear of adding more burdens to our already hectic lives. We’re not talking about exciting new job jitters but prolonged emotional stress.

Stress and Aging Our stressful lives make us old. Scientists have finally identified the first direct link between stress and aging. When we start to feel pulled at both ends how many of us really give our bodies a break? And, what about our skin? Dull complexion, blemishes, eczema and other skin disorders can be a direct result of prolonged stress. It can even result in premature aging…,even at your age.

Perhaps its time we manage our lives in a more holistic life style. The holistic view brings mind, body and sole together, it seeks balance.

So, instead of reaching for a quick fix, invest in some of these holistic practices that promote your good health and emotional well-being over the long-term. Because after all, good health and natural glowing skin really is…,skin deep.

Massage for Longevity The treatment of massage is effective in combating the negative effects of aging. The benefits of a massage are numerous including stress reduction, increased circulation, increased energy and, decreased fatigue. In fact, during a more vigorous massage this encourages blood flow to the skin bringing healthy nutrients and oxygen. And, a massage is always deserved after a work-out at the gym.

Quiet your Mind Whether it is mediation, prayer or a silent walk through the woods, add this practice to your daily routine. A time you remove all noise from television, radio, phones from your daily obligations, even a 5 minute quite session will help you relieve stress, ground your footing and refocus on what’s really important.

This can be especially beneficial during times of greater stress. Because the greater our perception of what kind of stress we are under, the worse we will feel.

One Day at a Time Difficult as it may be, try to remove many of the processed foods from your daily diet. Especially during times of stress where many of us will reach for something high in sugar - studies have shown that sugar can cause premature aging and of course, contributes to obesity. Start by replacing one food item, make it easy and make it fund – take it one day at a time.

It all comes together Then there are too many sleepless nights, greasy skin, bad diet and puffy eyes – for some of you, your skin maybe paying the price for your stressful life. Take care of your skin. Cleanse daily with a delicate facial cleanser, one that contains a natural, organic alpha-hydroxy acid to help shrink open pores which seem to get bigger as we age. Do exfoliate often which improves circulation, removes dead cells and keeps the skin glowing. Use only quality, natural skin care that provides holistic benefits to your skin.

Activity Keeps You Young
When your doctor is unable to find a reason for the cause of your ailment or discomfort, the doctor may consider the problem as being "all in your head." In a sense, most ailments are if you consider that your mental state greatly influences your physical condition. Your thoughts have such a strong effect upon your body that they can powerfully contribute to the aging process.

Aging is a disturbing and confusing issue that concerns all of us. When our thoughts, fears and stress are out of control, our bodies suffer from the resultant negative impact. What complicates matters is that the mind doesn’t just exist within the brain; it is present in the form of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) within every cell of the body.

DNA is a master processor of information for the entire body and therefore stresses and strong emotions have a bearing upon this processing. DNA is a force in nature that does not age or perish, and its mysteries may hold key answers about the aging process.

Slowing Down the Aging Process
DNA is indestructible; therefore, why should aging take place? By thinking of ourselves as only physical beings, we will continue to age because our mind reinforces physical limitations. We associate our identity or existence to an ever-aging physical body.

A human being’s essence is energy. Physicists have determined energy to be the basis of matter which comprises our bodies and all things physical. We draw energy from the calmness of our inner selves.

Calm Your Mind to Calm Your Body
Focused, mental calmness is the initial step to protect cells from the ravages of stress and aging. Consuming natural foods and beverages is the next step that enables the cells to maintain their integrity, strength, and durability. By using a deep cleansing supplementation program, the cells’ circuitry will retard the aging process.

Since we all choose to nourish our bodies and minds differently, our physical conditions and appearances will vary greatly at the same chronological age. This also affects the development of so-called diseases we anticipate with the aging process.

If you desire to feel younger and healthier, your mind will assist you. The mind provides you with intuitive knowledge about whether you are helping or harming yourself with your lifestyle and eating choices. Because the mind electromagnetically instructs every cell. It is a master healer. Your chronological age is unalterable - but your biological age is determined by how you live your life.

Studies prove that consistent calmness for a few minutes per day can add years to a person’s life. Peaceful contemplation, meditation, or prayer allows the body to be still and the mind to slow down. A rested mind facilitates the release of DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) from the adrenal glands.

A Calm Mind Increases Your DHEA Levels
DHEA, a steroid hormone released by the adrenal glands that may be related to longevity, holds great potential in retarding the aging process. It is a naturally occurring hormone that measures its highest in people who are in their mid-twenties. There is a continuous decline of DHEA to approximately 5% in a person’s early seventies.

DHEA occurs at higher levels for those people who choose to focus and relax their minds while eliminating disturbing thoughts during this process. Scientific research of these individuals has proven decreased rates of diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, cancer, and especially those diseases affecting the heart.

Toxicity: Root Cause of Illness and Aging
Discovering the root cause of a problem accomplishes true healing. The root of aging, as with illness, is often due to blockages within the body. Blockages occur from internal pollution that is mostly due to toxic foods such as refined white sugar, refined white flour, cow’s dairy products, artificial additives, and preservatives that lead to premature aging and illness.

If you could avoid or erase every upsetting or unpleasant event, you could substantially slow your aging process. These events cause stress and add to problems caused by the worn and toxic cells apparent in an aging body. The greater the amount of these cells, the older your body’s biological age.

Youthful health is apparent in people of all ages who radiate the energy that empowers a strong sense of wellness. When people look to natural ways of calming their minds and eat in a healthy manner, they help to protect, repair, and hinder their cells from absorbing toxins. They often act and feel younger than those whose bodies become over-burdened with toxicity.

You’ve looked in the mirror and have decided it’s time to do something for your face. You’re not exactly certain whether you should call the nearest plastic surgeon or take matters into your own hands. After all, this is your face and even though you don’t want to look sixteen again, you do want to do something that will stop those tired eyes and droopy cheeks.

Facial exercise has been in and out of vogue for hundreds of years. There are many practitioners of facial manipulation; so what works best?

There’s yoga for the face that aids lymphatic drainage, needle therapy via acupuncture, contortions and isometric/resistance training. All seem to have one goal and that is to help the user look youthful.

There are many benefits when exercise is used for the face: better posture is achieved as the neck muscles strengthen, a healthier face develops as blood flow is increased and collagen production is stimulated, and the facial skin becomes supple, refreshed and resilient. A facial exerciser will look younger as the sagging skin and supporting muscles reposition and align; the face will firm and lift.

Exercise is natural. It’s not invasive, there is no risk and the only “tools” one needs are the fingers and thumbs.

Facial exercises using isometric and resistance type movements prove best. Why? Unlike other parts of the body, the facial muscles are connected to bone on one end only. The other end is connected to another muscle. In order to achieve a contraction in these muscles, special anchoring techniques are required for the specific muscle or muscle group. Just like exercising your arms or legs, when a contraction of the muscle is created, the muscles shorten and then “plump”. When facial muscles contract this action lifts the skin because facial skin is attached directly to the muscles

Looking younger is the mantra of most every baby boomer. This generation of “forever young” adults knows the importance of good eating habits, exercising the body and using the finest non-chemical skin care items. Facial exercise fits the bill for anyone wanting to look 10-15 years younger without spending their children’s inheritance. Whether you’re 35 or 70, you will see a difference when you exercise your face.

If you re-read the title of this article I think you will see that embedded in it are two interesting beliefs:

1. That you are not fully in control of your physical body and,

2. That you likely think that you and your body are two separate things.

I would like to suggest that belief 1) above is in fact "the result of" belief 2).

Let me explain.

We have become so seduced by religions, over the history of humanity, into "thinking" of ourselves in terms of a "body" and "spirit" that these two "things" have essentially become separated from each other.

I think you recognize that the "YOU" that wants your body to remain healthy and youthful often has ultimately very little control over the "YOU" that is your body and that ages and eventually loses it’s functionality over time.

Does it "feel" natural or even desirable to you to be experiencing such a disconnection between these two YOU’s?

Would YOU prefer to have these "two" YOU’S living in harmony together?

Isn’t it interesting that they seem to have two different journeys?

In my work with individuals it has been my experience that this "disconnection" or "misalignment" is:

1. Not natural to us.

2. That it is the result of many faulty beliefs that we carry within us about "who we are".

3. That these faulty beliefs can not only be exposed but they can be eradicated permanently from one’s consciousness, and that by do so,

4. One can re-experience the alignment and harmonious "unity" of body and spirit as "one" entity, YOU.

Why would anyone wish to pursue this?

Well if you consider what it "feels" like for the "two’ YOU’s to be on separate journeys I think there you will find the motivation to consider another option.

If you would like to re-establish the harmonious unity that you have likely been searching for throughout your life you may wish to visit the web link below and listen to the very special message I have posted for you there.

Does eye cream really work? While we can not say for every brand out there, but what we do know is that many do in fact help you to lose those crows feet and help to provide you with more skin tone that you can be proud of. What most people do not know, though, is that eye cream works because of what is inside of it being as natural as you will find. The products that defy age work because they are filled with great quality ingredients that would make anything do well.

So, what magical product is inside eye cream that makes it work so well? It is not the ingredient per say but the vitamins that are in it instead. For example, those ingredients that are full of natural antioxidants are full of all the good stuff our bodies need. Many eye cream products are full of just that- antioxidants. These vitamins are super tough. They can help to clean out your arteries and to help you to fight disease as well as just helping to keep your skin healthy looking. In fact, many antioxidants are able to help rejuvenate various types of elements within the body including the eyes and skin. So, antioxidants that are in eye cream can in fact help to improve your look.

When you are out and about looking for the eye cream that you will use, flip it over and find out which natural ingredients are in the product. If you can not tell, you’ll want to look for those products that have a lot of vitamins especially your vitamin E’s. These are full of the antioxidants that your body needs anyway. A hint here; foods that are rich in antioxidants are usually very brightly colored greens, oranges, and other bright or dark colors. These are foods that you want to include in your diet anyway. Eye cream with antioxidants is just what you need.

The aging of your skin may be inevitable. But why rush it? There are ways to slow down sagging and wrinkles. Using skin creams and treatments may already be a part of your daily grooming regimen. However, topical creams cannot be expected to work alone for full efficacy. The best way to start your anti-aging effort is on the inside.

First of all, are you drinking enough water? There are varying opinions about how much water an individual actually needs for good health, but the general consensus remains that you probably aren’t drinking enough. If you’re thirsty, your skin is thirsty too — which means dryness and wrinkles. Hydrate your skin by drinking water regularly.

Drink water . . . but avoid alcohol and soft drinks. The contents of these beverages — alcohol and caffeine — dehydrate skin, wreaking havoc on its structure. An acceptable alternative to water is green tea, which is low in caffeine (but enough for a pick-me-up). Green tea, as you probably already know, is loaded with antioxidants that destroy free radicals, which cause aging.

A multivitamin is always a good idea, but our bodies most easily absorb nutrients from food. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet. In addition to vitamins and minerals, you’re fortifying your body with more antioxidants. Blueberries are one of nature’s “super foods,” having one of the highest antioxidant values.

Exercise! Exercise helps keep us from aging by keeping weight down, working the heart, toning muscles, and getting the blood flowing (to the skin!). People who exercise look younger and feel younger. It’s a most beneficial habit to get into.

People who look younger than their age repeatedly reveal one vital secret: getting enough sleep. If you aren’t, find ways to work it in. Instead of sitting up in front of the television, turn it off at a reasonable time and take a book to bed. This quiet practice can lead to an easier time getting to sleep — sometimes the colors and movement of the television keep our brains working even after we’ve begun to relax.

You may feel that you don’t have the time to take care of your skin, but keep in mind: by the time you do “have time,” it will be too late. The time to protect your skin is now! Years later, you’ll be thanking yourself for it — and not only will you look younger, you’ll feel younger too.
