Nine out of 10 people have dark circles under eyes, so it is quite common to have them more or less visible.

Unless there are genetically inherited, the factors that can cause dark eye circles are related to stress, fatigue, age, allergies, sun exposure and so on. The good news is there are remedies for each situation. Let’s see:

Lack or poor quality of sleep. Sleep means a minimum activity for the body. It is an opportunity for rest and restoration in organs and tissues. Dermatologists recommend 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night. If not, blood vessels become more visible resulting in dark eye circles.

Increased fluid retention. This condition may be a consequence of internal disorder due of the blood vessels located under the eye areas can become dilated and engorged. But very often fluid retention is caused by a salt dietary or smoking. In these situations the solution is a normal diet and/or smoking cessation.

Aging. On one hand aging may produce sunken appearance. On the other hand the skin may lose its tension and firmness. You may improve your appearance using cosmetic products with antioxidant ingredients such as Vitamins A and C and green tea. Also nourish and moisturize the under eye areas using an appropriate cream.

Sun exposure. It can contribute to dark eye circles by weakening the skin and creating ‘age spots’. You may use the anti aging remedies described above, plus a sunscreen use everyday.

Food allergies. In many cases, dark eye circles are a consequence of an allergic condition caused by a some food your body cannot tolerate well. If you can associate appearance of dark circles with a special food intake, you better avoid it.

When your hair goes grey it is due to the fact that the cells in the hair follicles called “Melanocytes” no longer generate pigment, the main one being melanin. The hair follicle loses all pigment over time and eventually goes white. The white hairs against your darker hair give the effect of grey hair. As your hair is no longer as healthy as it use to be you need to consider treating it to prevent it from going brittle and lifeless.

The vital vitamins that your hair would need in this case is B12, and Omega 3’s. You can take these supplements as tablets or you can use a shampoo that contains these types of nutrients. There are many products on the market that promise to treat Grey Hair or even take Gray Hair away. Beware as there are only a few that will actually be effective.

If you are looking for a shampoo that will replace the lost nutrients in your hair then you need to make sure that the ingredients of the shampoo will actually treat the problem. If the shampoo contains Emu oils then you know that the product will work. The Emu oil contained in the shampoo is known as the follicle awakener and has been used by many to help prevent the onset of gray hair. Every hair must have omega 3’s to grow properly. And Emu oil is the only ingredient that we know that can moisturize the hair enough to get it back up to an 8% moisture rate as it is supposed to be.

Now although a shampoo with these types of ingredients will help with the lack of moisture in your hair you may find in some cases it will actually darken the hair and reverse the graying process to some degree. The Emu oil actually works at the root of the hair follicle by penetrating the hair strand rejuvenating the pigment.

Just because you have Grey Hair doesn’t mean you shouldn’t treat it with conditioner and shampoo. Grey Hair can look healthy if treated properly. If you use the correct products you will find your hair will be healthy, full of volume and in some cases you could even get your original hair color back.

The importance of storing your essential oils in a proper manner can be estimated from the fact that women in the 19th century would ask their jewelers to design special bottles to hold their perfumes and essential oils. Luxury apart, storing essential oils in specially designed bottles helped keep the therapeutic and aromatic properties of the essential oils intact.

It is common knowledge that most of the essential oils become contaminated or their effect gets weakened with time if they are not stored properly. Citrus oils are the most susceptible to early breakdown. They oxidize and begin to lose the aroma and therapeutic properties. The citrus oil becomes cloudy and a sweet fragrance is emitted. This signals towards the deterioration of the essential oil.

Same does not apply to oils such as frankincense, sandalwood, patchouli, and myrrh. They can be stored for a longer time. In fact, they improve with time. In the older times, Egyptians used to embalm the dead people with the essential oils of cedar wood, cinnamon etc. When one such tomb was opened in the early 20th century, traces of the oil were clearly visible.

Will you not like to keep your treasured essential oils in the same manner? Lifetime of the essential oil ranges from 6 months to several years. Through a proper storage, one can increase the shelf life of an essential oil. The following section provides lessons in storing essentials oils.

Dark amber, cobalt blue, or violet glass bottles are the best when it comes to storing essential oils. Sunlight can be very harmful for the essential oils. Ultraviolet rays, which are a part of the sunlight, weaken the essential oil. This explains the reason why it is not advisable to store essential oils in clear glass bottles. Sunlight easily passes through the clear glass bottle, thus producing reaction in the essential oil, and no longer rendering it effective.

Plastic bottles too must not be used as the plastic dissolves with the essential oil and thus is contaminated. One can use aluminum bottles to store the essential oil, but the inner surface of the container must be lined.

Your essential oils need to be kept away from sunlight as far as possible. High temperature can be harmful to the oil. Therefore, the place where the essential oil is stored must not be near any heater vent or any such heat-emitting gadget. Keeping the oil in a refrigerator can help increase its shelf life. Nevertheless, freezing is not acceptable. When cooled at very low temperatures, some essential oils will cloud. It regains its original state when brought to room temperature. Certain citrus oils continue to be cloudy even when brought to room temperature. However, this does not affect their therapeutic properties.

We tend to contaminate the essential oil in the process of using them. The following checklist will be helpful in preventing contamination:

• Never touch the top of the orifice reducer or the inside of the cap.

• Always use separate pipettes for separate oil.

• The pipettes must not be carriers of oxygen. When one uses the pipette for taking out the oil, a few drops of it remain in the pipette. This becomes contaminated when it comes in contact with oxygen outside. When the same pipette is used again, it contaminates the whole bottle.

The cap of the bottle containing essential oils must not be kept open for long. Since they are volatile, they will evaporate.

The cap of the bottle containing essential oil must be selected carefully. Rubber droppers have a tendency to turn into gum when they come in contact with the concentrated essential oil.

Keeping these points in mind, one can surely increase the shelf life of the essential oils. This might require a few extra efforts and might become expensive in some cases, but your treasured essential oils truly deserve this.

The same stress in our daily lives that makes us yearn for a spa experience often keeps us from taking the time out from a busy schedule to book a day of relaxation. Even with time, a day at the spa can be a big hit to wallet. While I often can’t find the time (or budget) to be pampered in a luxurious spa, I do my best to treat myself with a home spa experience. When I take a few hours out of my schedule to treat myself right, I am rejuvenated and energized to take on the daily grind!

I start with an extra-special bath experience by turning off the lights and using candles and incense to set the mood. While filling the tub with great smelling products, like chamomile and lavender for relaxation or rosemary and mint for rejuvenation, I set up the CD player with some groovy tunes and turn off the phone. High quality soaps and scrubs, along with a terry cloth face mitt, round out my routine. I always keep plenty of fresh-smelling, fluffy towels for the finish.

Now it’s time out for my face. I like to start with a scrub to remove dead skin and prevent blackheads. In a small bowl, mix equal parts olive oil and granular brown sugar, and add a few drops of essential oil. I often use lavender and orange oil, but in a pinch, I’ve used a few drops each of orange and vanilla extract – it’s not surprising that I was dreaming of Dreamsicles while I scrubbed! Gently scrub your face and neck in small circles for a few minutes, avoiding the eye area.

My skin tends to be as mercurial as my moods, so I whip up a mask based on how it feels that day.

· To remove blackheads: I mix a little warm water with baking soda, work it gently into the T-zone, and leave it on for 3-5 minutes.

· To moisturize: I mash 2 parts avocado with 1 part honey, apply and leave on for about 15 minutes before rinsing with cool water. Hint: If the doorbell rings ignore it – a bright green face scares small children and men!

· To reduce oil: Whip up a whole egg with a spoonful of honey and a few drops of lemon juice. The egg white pulls out the oil, the vitamin A in the yolk helps heal blemishes, and the lemon is an astringent. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and rinse with cool water.

· To firm: Whisk together a spoonful each of honey and glycerin with an egg white and a few pinches of flour to create a paste. Rinse with cool water after 10-15 minutes.

After any of these treatments, gently pat your face dry with a towel and moisturize well.

To get my body smooth and add a glow to my skin, nothing beats a great salt scrub. Simply combine 1 cup of course sea salt or kosher salt with 1/2 cup of almond or olive oil and a spoonful of Vitamin E oil. Add a few drops of essential oil for fragrance. Scrub all over, giving special attention to any rough patches, especially elbows and knees! To avoid irritation, be sure to either shave before scrubbing or wait a day to shave.

To finish off I give myself a manicure and pedicure. Summer feet are for showing off so be sure to take the time to remove all the rough spots!

A home spa day isn’t as fabulous as getting the deluxe treatment at a “real” spa, but it’s a great way to rejuvenate and feel better about yourself without putting a big strain on your wallet!

If you have dandruff, it could be the result of an increase in stress. Also known as seborrheic dermatitis, this dandruff can be caused by negative events such as losing your job, or even a positive event like getting married! Fortunately, there are some excellent treatments on the market for dandruff, which respond well with very little attention, so it is easy to keep under control regardless of your stress level. If you have tried hair regrowth or have thinning hair, dandruff certainly won’t help this either. When you have dandruff, scaling of the scalp results in visible flakes of skin, especially along your hairline. Psoriasis is sometimes confused with dandruff. This is a chronic skin disease with a fairly prominent scaling.

The only way to determine if you have psoriasis or dandruff is to visit your doctor before you try to treat it. Obviously, psoriasis will have more scaling involved than dandruff. The unfortunate part about dandruff is that it is fairly common, and it is not known what causes it. Of course, if you have male pattern baldness, the chances of you having dandruff will diminish.

The best way to combat dandruff is using a shampoo with the active ingredient pyrithione zinc. This active ingredient is found in such products as Denorex, Head and Shoulders, and Pert Plus Dandruff Shampoo. You can also get excellent results with a product called Selsun Blue. It has an active ingredient called selenium sulfide which is equally effective but can be more irritating to the skin. If you apply the shampoo twice a week and leave it in your hair for three to five minutes before rinsing, this gives the ingredients time to work. If you are trying to encourage hair regrowth these products can be used in conjunction with other hair loss remedies. It is important to continue using the dandruff shampoo even when it clears up as this will suppress any further flaking. Remember to take measures that will minimize the amount of stress in your life as this will encourage proper hair regrowth and reduce the chances of you having dandruff.

None of us want to go Gray but we have to accept some of us will at some stage be affected by it. Your hair will go Gray for several reasons:

• Heredity: If there is a history of family members going Gray then you may find you will follow and go Gray as well.

• Smoking can cause your hair to go Gray.

• Lack of B12 and Omega 3’s in your diet.

So how do we go about finding a remedy to combat the onset of gray hair? There are a few options open to us. The first is diet. A lot of what we eat contributes to how our bodies produce healthy producing cells in our hair. As gray hair is usually dry and brittle it may be that you are not eating properly. As mentioned before the lack of B12 and Omega 3’s are major contributors to your hair going Gray.

Even if we are on a good diet it does not necessarily mean you will be immune to gray hair. As mentioned if it is heredity then your best bet is to use a very good shampoo that will treat the hair and keep it in good condition. Some Shampoos are designed specifically for the treatment of gray hair and contain things like Omega 3’s such as Emu oil. These oils actually treat the hair follicle and rejuvenate the pigment generating cells called Melanocytes. After repeated use you may find that your hair will revert back to its original color. If you are happy to stay Gray then make sure you treat your hair as no one said that gray hair can’t look good.

You can always dye your hair. This is the most common. You can use dyes that will gradually change you hair color over time or you can go for an immediate effect. This usually works better for women. As they do look great with different hair colors.

If you do want to prevent or reverse your gray hair then you can take a tablet called Melancor. This is a new product on the market and works in two ways. Firstly when you get gray hair you have a genetically based tendency to produce less melanin as body pigments. Melancor triggers Melanocytes which helps overcome this tendency by increasing you body’s ability to produce melanin pigments.

Secondly Melancor exerts a profound “Mleanocytes” action whereby it mobilizes stored melanin, moving it out of the hair cell and thereby increasing the number and size of the hair strands and pigments in your natural hair color.

Melancor also stops male pattern baldness by blocking increased levels of DHT. This is the hormone that is responsible for male development in the early stages, and is a major contributor in hair loss as men get older. DHT shrinks the hair follicle until it no longer produces visible hair.

Do your research, find out why you may have gray hair and find the best solution to remedy it.

Did you know that there are differences in the way you care for your hair depending upon the season we are in? Have you ever noticed that your hair starts to behave differently when the cold weather hits? Hair tends to dry out and is hard to manage especially during the winter months, but there are a few things you can do to protect it. Try to not wash your hair too often during the winter months, and using a dry-hair shampoo will be good for it. Static electricity is also a problem during the winter, so run a metal hanger over to stop it in its tracks. If you are dealing with thinning hair or applying some other type of hair loss remedy, it may be difficult to not shampoo too often.

Here is a recipe for a good conditioner that you can use in the winter to replace store-bought conditioners. Take one-half cup of pure maple syrup, a hotel shower cap and a towel wrap for 30 minutes. If you have to buy a conditioner, trying purchasing your shampoos and conditioners from a salon as they carry a much better quality product. Sometimes, preventing hair loss in the winter is more difficult as it seems to occur more during the winter months.

When your hair gets very dry, you can use a hair treatment or a hair reconstructor to add volume to your hair. It is a good idea to use conditioning heat-activated hair spray and to leave conditioners on as long as possible. A deep-moisturizing conditioner should be used weekly, and remember to not go outside with wet hair as this may freeze your hair and cause breaking. Remember to always wear a hat, and especially in wintertime. Hair regrowth is sometimes difficult in the winter months, but is easier in the warmer summer months.

We all strive for a beautiful and healthy body. This not only makes our hearts come alive but it keeps us alive and vibrant.

Unfortunately, there are some individuals who strive for beauty for reasons that not only are unhealthy but which in time actually detract from the over all attractiveness of the individual. One of the main unhealthy reasons to try and look beautiful is out of a need for attention or need for validation. Such needs usually stem from a fear of being alone and this is most often associated with low self esteem.

Using beauty to try to compensate for low self esteem is like trying to make your old broken down car attractive with a new paint job in order to get it sold when the engine no longer works. Sooner or later the truth will come out and any perceived gains will be lost. In the process there will also come a great deal of heart ache.

Attractiveness is more than skin deep. It is something that can only emerge from a fully self respecting and self confident human being. All of this can only come when an individual truly loves or esteems themselves in every way. Now many feel this is a distant and unachievable reality so they look for a quik fix from a good make over. A lot of organizations are making a lot of money feeding off of the poor self esteem of individuals.

What price do you pay when you buy into such "easy solutions" and pretend to yourself that this is the road to happiness? Well, what happens is that you go into a state of denial about what you really feel inside and then these feelings need to be kept suppressed. Where do they go then? Well, they actually go "into" your body and turn up sooner or later as some form of emotional or physical illness.

So in the end you’re left with a reminder of the problem that you tried so hard to forget. The worst part about all of this is that once the illness stage emerges the tendency is again to find a quik fix in the form of some medication or drug prescribed by a physician. Most medications come with numerous side-effects. Staying on one or more long enough will cause you to likely experience some of these side-effects. The solution? Well, another medication of course, and so on.

Now if you are a young person you may think that this is all sounding a bit too pessimistic. Well my 20 years as a psychiatrist has given me enough experience to know that this is an ever recurring scenario. I’m presenting it to you here so that you will reflect carefully on your situation and make a wise and self respecting decision to take what ever feels like the truly right course for yourself.

Self esteem is something that can be improved more easily than one thinks these days, and in the right way. So I challenge you to strive for the true lasting beauty that can only emerge from a heart that is truly alive and open. It’s the only way to be truly attractive!

Many of you probably think that aging is something that is just part of the normal life cycle. If your concept of the life cycle is then something like "you’re born, you age and then you die" then it’s not surprizing that this is where you are headed. Although you are likely not alone in believing this I would like to challenge you to take a step back from this belief for a moment.

What I’d like you to try now is to repeat the statement to yourself again once, and as you do try not to listen to the words. Instead listen to how the words make you feel inside. I know that this may sound strange or feel a bit callenging but try it anyway. Alternately you can allow someone else to read it to you as you focus on and listen to the feelings it evokes within you.

So again the statement is:

(A) "You’re born, you age and then you die".

Now if you are a sensitive individual I can guess that the feelings that emerged with hearing such a statement were not exactly pleasant. For instance did you feel any of the following: saddness, heaviness, frustration, anger, hopelessness, helplessness, a sinking feeling, feeling limited or trapped?

If so, what do you think these feelings are trying to communicate to you about statement(A)? Well, if you consider this long enough, you’ll probably agree that these feelings are suggesting to you that that statement is not good for you i.e. it is toxic to you. Just think about it.

When you eat something that isn’t good for your body how does it react? Not well, right? That reaction is your body telling you "that’s not good for you"! In the same way the feelings you may have had about statement (A) are telling you the same thing about the statement itself.

So you see, your body reacts not only to foods, it also reacts to beliefs that happen to be inside you that are not good for you. A belief is simply a statement that you choose to keep inside of yourself because you think it is going to be useful to you in some way. I’m only guessing that all this may be a new revelation for you. If not, I congratulate you on your wisdom.

Now when you eat something that isn’t good for you, what do you do? Well, you make sure that that food never finds its way back inside you, don’t you? So my next question is: Why have you persisted in keeping statement (A) inside you if it makes you feel so bad? In other words why do you believe statement (A) is useful to you?

Well you might now say something like, "It’s not a question of whether it’s good for me or not, it’s just a fact, I can’t change it". Well this last statement is another belief, isn’t it? How does it make you feel? Probably the same way statement (A) made you feel, correct?

So are you beginning to see how many "toxic" beliefs you have inside you? By "toxic", I mean something that makes you feel uncomfortable, uneasy, sick, sad etc.. It’s no wonder you’re body is deteriorating i.e. aging. After all isn’t aging what happens to you when you take something toxic inside yourself and it stays there for a long period and undermines the normal functioning of your body so that it breaks down?

Now that you’ve followed me so far I want to add that the choice to take something toxic into ones’ self is an issue of "Self Esteem"! That is, if you like yourself sufficiently, you are unlikely to choose to take into yourself something that is toxic to you, correct? Whether it’s bad food, cigarettes, toxic chemicals, drugs or beliefs, the effects are the same.

You may even be surprized if I said to you that the latter are probably more toxic than all the others.

What’s interesting about all of this is that you actually "do" have a choice! If you want to know more about how you can exercise this choice you may wish to visit the web site below in my bio.
