Don’t want to look like a clown? Then get the low down on how to choose the correct blush for your skin type.

Step 1: Choose a Shade - Pinch your cheeks gently so they flush –this is the blush tone that suits you. As a rule, light peach and pink flatters pale skin, apricot and terracotta give warmth to olive complexions, reddish and coral tones compliment darker skin. Cream and gels blend easily but use powder if your prone to acne.

Step 2: Contour with Colour – If using powder blush, set foundation with translucent powder. Smile into a mirror, applying blush over the cheeks with a fingertip, brush or damp sponge, blending up and out. For powder, use a swirling motion over apples of the cheeks, blending up to the temples.

Step 3: Glow baby glow – accentuate cheekbone contour with a little shimmer. Use cream highlighter with cream or gel blush. White or silver suits fair skin, bronze or berry suits darker complexions. Apply just above cheekbones, where light hits, then blend so there’s no visible line.

Spa-goers visiting the spa for the first time often need to know what is expected of them as they prepare for their spa experience. As the spa strives to provide the client with a tranquil and safe environment so too the spa-goer has certain expectations placed upon them. To make the spa experience as relaxing and enjoyable as possible here are a few simple guidelines to follow:

1. Book well in advance and where possible pick up a brochure from the spa that includes prices and treatments. Call 24-hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule.

2. Request detailed information on the type of treatment booked.

3. Ask about the therapist assigned to you. Do you prefer a male or female spa therapist? An often missed and important detail.

4. Wear suitable clothes and be prepared to undress according to spa treatment you have booked. Spa robes and slippers are provided for the comfort of the client and spa personnel are trained in proper draping techniques for complete comfort and privacy.

5. Arrive 10 – 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to ensure you are calm and relaxed before the spa treatment.

6. Always alert the spa therapist to any current or chronic health condition that may need to be addressed before your spa treatment.

7. In consideration of the other spa clientele, cell phones and pagers are not a good idea in the spa – remember your there to get away from the stress!

8. Allow the therapist to advise and prepare you for the treatment you have reserved. As you relax and benefit from the spa treatment you will be sure to feel the stress melt away.

9. Everyone is different – so feel free to speak or not during your treatment. Share information and feedback on your personal comfort level or any sensitive areas on the body.

10. Relax you’re at the spa! Enjoy the treatment and reap the full benefits.

11. Take time as you prepare to leave the treatment room, however, remember there may be another client waiting to use the space.

12. Determine the tipping policy in advance and be prepared accordingly.

13. Let the spa personnel know if your experience at the spa was as expected. Your feedback is always appreciated.

14. Now is a good time to ask about any new products to take home. Scented candles or essentials oils will help you to enjoy the spa experience at home.

15. Remember the right way to spa is your way so always have good communication with the spa personnel and make the experience a relaxing and memorable one.

There is not an ultimate advice because everyone interprets odors in their own way, and the same fragrance can smell totally different considering type of skin, hair color, temperament and even the season of a year. There are important nuances if you do not want to seem vulgar or lacking of taste.

First, when you choose a perfume, do not account on anybody except yourself. When you breathe in the scent, imagine yourself in it, wear it, like an unseen dress, and look at. Does it fit you? After some training, you will learn which of them best suits you.

Second, do not buy cheap perfumes in occidental places.

Third, when using perfumes it is important to take to account the season, the clothes and the place where you are planning to go. It is known that day perfumes are subtler and more transparent than evening perfumes which are considered as darker and richer in their aroma and mysteriousness.

At work at the office or just on a walk, it is better to use day perfumes; they are softer and lighter. In the evening, going to the theatre, it is essential to emphasize the luxury. When you are preparing to a date, avoid using perfumes that include lavender, wood, cumarine and bergamot. Your secret goal is to temptate your man, to shock his senses, to give him a hope, not to demonstrate proud independence and unavailability.

There is an advice of an old Russian perfumer who had worked for many years for CHANEL: “At night, use perfumes with fruity scents- they evoke the taste (flavor) sense. These odors turn a woman from a flower to a lustful fruit that promises pleasure”.

In winter, cypress perfumes are recommended. Their heavy, sharp woody notes emphasize the luxury of furs and give a feeling of internal heat. By the way, in 1948 Rochas introduced a special winter perfume to use on furs only.

In summer, it is recommended to use sweet-honey and flowery perfumes. They make woman feel like a blossoming fresh flower. Never exaggerate with perfumes. Psychologists have proved that our sense of smell stop reacting to odors we are used to, but people around us feel them very well. So it is not recommended to exaggerate if you do not want to become an object of irritation.

Here I was, 52 years old and a long-time meditator. I took a good look in the mirror. To my total dismay - gravity was well at work!

Since I was 19 years old, I had eaten organic foods, taken supplements, gone through natural childbirth with my son and practiced Yoga at least three times a week. I even meditated on a regular basis. Yet, when I looked into the mirror in my early fifties, I saw deep lines in my forehead, crow’s feet that testified to lots of laughter in my life (at least I could acknowledge that part!), hanging jowls, lines around my lips and rings around my neck. Help! It seemed that vanity was alive and well and thriving in me!

I confess: I found myself on a quest to “correcting” (what a great word) the ravages of time showing up as wrinkles and bags in my face and neck.

Surgery was not a consideration for me - no, no! At age 65, my beautiful mother looked permanently surprised from too many face-lifts. Besides, I’m the organic type. What to do? I was on a search to look younger - some how, some way - naturally!

First I bought the electronic gadgets. I found myself holding this one contraption to my face for an hour a day - getting little electric jolts to the muscles in my face. Well, I lasted five days. I understand staying even this long with such a device was some kind of record. No way was I going to spend so much time doing this. Besides, my arms were also getting tired holding this thing to my face. Next, (yes I did shame on me!) I bought the electronic mask! This was a 45-minute-a-day regime. Forget it. I found that I wouldn’t spend the time doing this either. Besides, the results were really not forthcoming. I looked just as “baggy” and tired as ever. Sigh…

There just had to be another alternative to isometrics and electric shocks! I then discovered face exercises. Yes! To make a long story short, I ended up buying all 12 programs offered out there on the market at the time. I discovered, to my dismay, that these programs were either too long, too short, incomplete, “incompetent,” or they also took 40 minutes a day. However, some of these exercises were showing results on my face.

I discovered that the old belief that touching or rubbing your face caused wrinkles was false. Actually, I had stumbled upon muscle resistance training for the face. This made sense to me. After all everybody knows that through exercising in a gym or through doing Yoga, you can firm up the body and skin. Naturally, the same could be true about the muscles and skin on the face. I was about to find out for sure.

Since I am a teacher at heart (I taught school for years) I developed my own program and I got amazing results. My wrinkles flattened out and then disappeared. The muscles in my face got bigger and created lift, giving me the appearance of youth. The papery skin under my eyes and on my neck smoothed out and became firm. The rings around my neck completely disappeared. The lines around my mouth were evaporating. I had my young, plump lips back. My upper eyelids were showing, again. In short, my exercises were working. I was regaining that youthful, dynamic look I had when I was young!

The next thing I knew, all my girlfriends wanted to know what I was doing to look so good. I told them, and my workshops were born.

Okay, okay - I knew from past experience I wasn’t going to spend 40 minutes a day on this stuff, no matter how young it made me look. So I consulted my long-time family doctor, and together we developed a program that covered all 57 muscles in the face and neck in a 15-minute session.

I admit it. I have a bit of a perfectionist residing in me. It took me three years to perfect this workshop program. As I worked on the exercises, I found I got sick of counting and trying to remember everything. So, I made cassette tapes and CD’s that teach, pace and count for me. Maybe I’m a lazy perfectionist? Sigh…

Then the problem came up as to when to do these exercises. All the old programs I had tried before suggested doing five exercises in the morning before your shower, five more at lunch and ten more at bedtime. Egads! Not only could I not remember what exercise I did last, I forgot to do them at all. I decided to solve this problem. After all, as strange as it may sound, I knew I had to do these exercises to have the results I wanted!

In the end, I designed 28 exercises that completely firm up the face and neck, and I fit them all into a 15-minute session. The session is also done lying down. (I am lazy!!!) Now I set my alarm 15 minutes earlier than usual in the morning, turn on my CD and my voice guides me through the exercises. No more remembering what comes next; no more counting. It’s all done for me. Plus, my face is almost “addicted” to the glorious massage and Yoga antics it gets put through in the mornings. What a beautiful and relaxing way to wakeup. On top of it all, I’ve done all I need to do to have a younger, more youthful-looking face. I don’t have to think about it again for the rest of the day!

As my program developed, I found that I had to make flashcards for my workshops. Now I’ve even made photo-illustrated cards so my clients can easily see how each handhold is done correctly. I have an easy-to-follow workbook and lots of other material all about beauty (I worked as a photographer and runway model when I was younger, so I have a good idea about the world of beauty). Add to this my three CD’s for easy learning, and you’ll understand “once a schoolteacher, always a schoolteacher.” I know how people learn, so I had a big advantage, I could put together a great package for learning the exercises.

I found myself giving workshops on a regular basis. Next, my girlfriend from Hawaii called. She had read an article I’d written and wanted to do my program, but couldn’t attend my workshop. My “Self-learning, Take-home Kits” were born. These are a comprehensive package with everything you need to learn the exercises on your own. It’s so amazing how existence seems to keep rewarding me when I do something I love.

Now I even have a DVD demonstrating all the exercises, making the program really easy to learn! My business is growing leaps and bounds and I’m loving every minute of it.

All right, I admit it. I’m vain. My whole life devoted to meditation and here I am exercising my face to look younger. So, I am “watching/meditating” on a younger-looking face, as well. Thank you life!

As the summer months get closer many people begin to prepare themselves for a very common and soothing activity known as sun tanning. In fact lots of folks have already started working on their tans for summer in the privacy of their own home or in a tanning salon. They are able to achieve nice dark tans through regular tanning sessions with commercial tanning beds and supplies.

Speaking of tanning supplies you would probably be surprised at the number of tanning bed supplies that exist on the current market. Items such as tanning lotions, tanning bed parts, fans, tanning accelerators, sprays, lamps, clothes and even tanning tattoos all add to the ability to achieve and enhance your tan in your home or at a commercial tanning salon. If you’re in the market for tanning supplies you need to make sure and conduct some research, especially when considering the purchase of tanning sprays, lotions and accelerators. The difference between a good purchase and a bad purchase can have you looking orange instead of the golden brown tan you’re hoping to achieve.

Another thing to consider when tanning indoors with a tanning bed is the danger to your skin cells. Even though a tanning bed may be safer then obtaining a tan using the sun’s direct rays it’s still not completely healthy. The reality is excessive use of tanning supplies when combined with an abundance of tanning could cause a common form of skin cancer known as melanoma. Many health care specialists readily agree that an overexposure to UV rays can be harmful to your skins health. The main difference between a natural tan and an indoor tan can be found in the type of UV rays used to achieve the suntan. Commercial tanning beds use UV-A rays while the sun emits UV-B rays. Tanning bed experts would argue that UV-A rays are better for you because they decrease your chance of suffering a sunburn when compared to the harmful effects of UV-B rays. Additionally they also advocate the use of UV-A rays and sun tan beds because they have been proven to help produce a high concentration of vitamin D which assist in preventing dangerous diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis and even certain forms of cancer.

No matter what you believe or read, when using an indoor tanning bed exposure should be limited to a few timed sessions each week of say 15 or 20 minutes in duration. Increased tanning times greatly improves the odds of the powerful UV rays that are emitted from the tanning bed bulbs being able to damage the cellular structure of your skin. There have been some studies shown that tanning beds should be limited to folks that are no longer teenagers as a precaution to prevent overexposure to harmful rays and to prevent serious damage which could result in skin cancer at a later time in that person’s life.

As you can see even indoor sun tanning can be dangerous to your skin and your health when abused and used excessively. If you’re planning on working on your tan for the summer in a commercial tanning bed (whether in your house or a tanning salon) make sure to make smart decisions and limit your exposure time to the tanning lamp rays. Smart sun tanning will not only allow you to achieve that dark golden brown tan you so desperately seek it will also keep your skin safe and prevent you from contracting skin cancer at a later point in your life.

If you’re anything like most baby boomers, after graying hair, poor eyesight, weight gain and winkles, age spots rank fifth on your list of aging nuisances. But you can find comfort in erasing those age advertisers right from your own kitchen.

What Causes Age Spots

To protect your skin against excessive sun exposure, your skin makes cells called melanocytes. Melanocytes create the dark brown pigment called melanin. The melanin makes your skin look darker or suntanned.

But sometimes, your typical day in the sun causes an uneven jump in melanocytes. This awkward production creates irregular coloring or pigmentation of the skin.

The resulting solar lentigines, or what most people call liver spots or age spots, can appear brown, black or gray. Age spots pop up on the areas of the skin most readily exposed to the sun, like the chest, back, face and hands.

Even youngsters can get age spots with too much unprotected sun exposure.

How to Avoid Age Spots Completely

Preventing age spots proves the best way to completely avoid them. This includes:

1. Avoiding intense sunlight hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

2. Wearing a hat and long sleeve shirt in the sun.

3. Applying sunscreen 20 minutes before going outdoors and reapplying it every two hours.

Precautions

Additionally, note that the sun and excess chemicals don’t mix. For instance, most often in middle-aged women, might mistake irregular areas of reddish-brown pigmentation called poikiloderma for age spots.

Poikiloderma results from chronic sun exposure combined with sun-sensitive chemicals in cosmetics or perfume. Hence, poikiloderma most frequently appears on the side of the neck or on the cheeks.

Sunscreen Is More Potent Than You Thought

You may feel annoyed with the repeated advise of slathering yourself with sunscreen, but a study published in the October 14, 1993 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine gives you reason to appreciate your sunscreen an effective age spot eraser.

In the study, researchers found that among sunscreen users, those who rubbed on the most cream with the greatest regularity had the largest reduction in actinic keratoses.

Actinic keratoses (AKs) describe the rough, red, scaly patches, crusts or sores that measure anywhere from one-quarter to one-inch in diameter. Like most other age spots, you’ll find actinic keratoses on body areas most readily exposed to the sun.

How To Minimize the Appearance of Age Spots

Eat your age spots away Research studies also reveal the benefits of eating your nutrients to reduce the appearance of age spots. The water-soluble pigment found in most vegetables, fruits, grain, flowers, seeds, leaves and bark, called flavanoid provides numerous antioxidant properties.

In research studies, flavanoids even prevented cancer formation in animals.

Likewise, you’ll find age spot reducing properties in soy products. The protein extracts of soybean and soymilk contain several different estrogen-like substances called isoflavones. One study showed that soy isoflavones might lighten age spots.

Home Remedies

Erasing your age spots can begin right in your own kitchen. In Japan, the rice based drink, sake, serves as an age spot lightener when applied to the skin.

You can also use lemon juice to lighten age spots. Simply dab a cotton ball in freshly squeezed lemon juice and apply the liquid to the age spots twice daily- once in the morning and once in the evening. Warning: Lemon juice makes the skin photosensitive so ensure to protect your skin with sunscreen before enjoying the sunshine.

Pull a green papaya out of the fridge and use the fleshy side of the skin to reduce age spots. Just apply the papaya to the spots for 15-20 minutes daily and repeat until you attain the desire lightness.

Of course, since home remedies offer an inexpensive and gentle way to reduce age spots, they require time to see results- usually six to eight weeks.

What To Do Right Now To Stop Age Spots

Because age spots, poikiloderma and actinic keratoses can serve as warning signs for skin cancer, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends scheduling a professional skin examination each year.

You can find out how to give yourself a skin examination by visting http://www.skincarephysicians.com. Use this information now before your forget, because before you know it, the sixth aging nuisance for baby boomers- memory loss-will creep in on you.

I know many of us women spend tons of money or have loads of products, and have spent countless amounts of money. There are so many products and creams that claim to dramatically diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, blemishes, as well as strengthen and nourish skin.

The original formula was created for a babies diaper rash. Today, there is a steady following which is causing an unembroidered flurry as its steadfast users praise its exciting intrinsic worth by word of mouth it is described as "the miracle cream under $6". A month ago I never heard of A&D, but I did know what diaper rash cream was.

I have found it to be the best moisturizing cream you`ll ever apply to your skin; it is specially formulated with two active ingredients, Petrolatum and Lanolin, and forms a protective barrier to help seal out irritating wetness and allows skin to heal naturally.

If you find yourself getting slapped in the face for having a cute bum, I think it’s a sure sign –you apparently look like ass. What is the point to dash out into those over priced department stores; just to pile on perfume based lotions? Most of them break you out, and will some of these manufactures ever get it?

We (women) hate, we hate lipstick that taste like perfume! Anyway, there are tons of creams for this, creams for that out there, but it seems diaper rash cream is good for your butt (I mean face) and it will not burn a hole in your pocket.

Diaper Rash Cream is slathered on baby bums all over the world and works wonders for those delicate arses, says Jenni Rivard. Before you know it your face will be smooth and soft like a baby’s butt!

Finally summer has arrived, the sun is warm and inviting and we can ditch that heavy clothing. It’s the season to enjoy the outdoors and enjoy that sun. But the trick is to tan safely and enjoy the sun safely.

There are so many terms related to tanning, sun tan lotions, and the whole industry. Have you ever wondered what the difference between SPF and UV index is? Here’s some tanning terms to help you understand the industry lingo. Then you can be on your way to being that sexy goddess or god with that deep golden tan.

We’ll start by defining tanning. Don’t laugh it’s an important lingo term. A tan occurs when your skin absorbs UV rays [ultraviolet radiation]. As the UV rays penetrate your skin produces melanin which darkens the outer layers. Funny thing is we all see that darkening as a healthy tan but infact it is a sign of damaged skin. In actuality it is the beginning of a burn.

Well that little tid bit isn’t going to stop the sun worshiper so then you’ll need to understand what the UV index is. This is just a scientific measurement with a big fancy name that tells us how much UV rays is reaching the earth at certain time during the day.

UV is not visible but it is always present at some level. UV rays actually consists of UVA and UVB rays. Experts say they are both bad so you’ll need to protect against both.

The UV index is on a scale of 10. The higher the number the stronger the rays and the more exposure you will have. If the index is really high you need to be really careful because it won’t take long to burn. And how attractive is the red tan with the peel effect?

SPF is how suntan lotions are rated. It stands for sun protection factor. All suncreens have a number from 4 to 30. The higher the number the higher the protection. The level of protection you will need is based on your skin and how fast you normally burn. People that tan easily and never burn can use a 4 but a fair skinned person who thinks sun and get red is going to need a 30.

The difference between sunscreen and sunblock also needs to be explained as they are totally different products.

Sunscreen comes in a lotion, oil, or cream and has an SPF rating attached to it. It reacts with the sun creating a barrier that you cannot see. How strong the barrier depends on how strong the SPF. The lower the number the less protection.

Most sunscreens tell you to apply 20 minutes before going out and if you swimming you need to reapply when you come out of the water. You can also buy waterproof sunscreen which lasts longer.

Sunblock on the other hand has no SPF rating because it does just what it says it blocks the sun’s UV rays completely. This is thick and gooey. You’ve seen people with it on their noses and lips.

Where you have to be careful is some sunscreens that are a 15 or higher will be marked as a sunblock but this is totally not true! If you are looking for a sunblock then look for a bottle that has no SPF rating.

So go play in the sun, enjoy that warm weather, even get that golden tan if you must, but do it smartly and safely!

Ladies, if you like to put rollers in your hair, here are a few small tips to keep in mind. Remember as well, that what works well for one person may not work as well for you. To begin with, you will need a tail comb for sectioning, styling mist, pins for the rollers, and of course rollers, which are picked according to the size of curl you would like. Wash your hair well with a good shampoo and conditioner. Allow your hair to partially dry and add your favorite styling product. There are numerous types of products on the market and one that can be sprayed on is easiest to work with.

Start at the crown and work your way around, but you can use whatever method you feel most comfortable with. Remember to practice, as the first time may be a little messy, but keep trying and you will get better and work out a system that you are comfortable with.

Using a tail comb, section off your hair and apply your first roller. When you section your hair, make sure that it is no wider than the roller. You can pin the roller in place if necessary, and continue until all the hair is rolled and secured. One important thing to remember is to make sure that when you put the roller on that it is firmly in place against the scalp, the firmer, the better as this will lift the root and give you a better curl. Keep a mist bottle close by as you may find your hair drying out before you finish rolling your sections. Purchase a good hair spray, and when you have finished putting all of your hair into rollers, you can spray the entire set and allow it to dry on its own, or you can use a bonnet drier. When finished, dry gently and carefully remove the rollers.

I’m sure you’ve seen on TV the Pantene commercial where the hair shines like a mirror. I don’t know why other hair commercials don’t do the same thing with all that shine.

I do like the Pantene shampoo because there is silk in it.

For one thing, what I learned going to cosmetology school is that you need to shampoo your hair 2 times to get the crap out of your hair. The first time you shampoo your hair, you bring the dirt up to the surface, and the 2nd time you shampoo, you get all the residual dirt out of your hair. The second time you shampoo your hair, just use a dime size amount.

Now that you shampooed your hair, you can use a conditioner, especially if it has silk in it.

The biggest secret to shiny hair is to use either lemon juice or apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle to get your hair back to its natural ph and closes the cuticle. When the cuticle is closed that’s when you hair is shiny.

Make sure you use a natural bristle brush or comb and always comb in the direction the hair falls, which is down.

If you want to use a light mousse, that’s fine but after you comb it, just leave it alone and let it dry naturally.

Now if you blow dry your hair, again, blow dry it in a downward motion. This allows the cuticle to stick together naturally. Then your hair will reflect light. If you blow your hair against the natural direction, your hair will not be shiny. You can also use Infusium Leave In Conditioner to protect your hair. Infusium will untangle any knots.

If you use a curling iron, use one of those ceramic curling irons–the professional ones. It can make your hair extremely shiny because again you are using the iron in a downward direction. It is good if you can use Infusium Leave-in spray conditioner to protect the hair.

These are simple techniques to get the most shine out of your hair.
