Many women experience unwanted facial hair and wish to have it removed.  It can be due to genetics, age, medication or many women just want it removed for cosmetic reasons, like eyebrow hair.  Women experience growth of unwanted facial hair during certain times of their life, such as puberty, pregnancy, and menopause.  Regardless, there is a large population of women who want a safe, long lasting, and effective way to remove facial hair.  One way to remove facial hair is through shaving.  Although the old wives tale that this will cause the hair it grow back thicker and faster is not true, many woman feel this is too masculine a way to remove facial hair.  Plus, it only eliminates the problem for a short amount of time and may irritate sensitive skin.

One of the most common ways for women to remove facial hair is by plucking.  They are probably already familiar with this due to plucking their eyebrows with a process.  If they see a darker hair on their lip or chin, it is easy enough to pluck out.  Plucking the hair removes it longer than shaving, but is still not the permanent solution for which many women are looking.  Waxing is similar to plucking, but it can be more painful and is more likely to irritate sensitive skin.  The same is true for creams that remove hair plus many of them have a bad smell.  There is a skin cream called Vaniqa that decreases facial hair growth, but it is also only temporary and requires a prescription from a doctor.

You can purchase epilators with tweezers at most beauty stores, but the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stated that that is no statistically significant data to prove that tweezer epilators provide permanent hair removal.  It may for some, and not for others.  One factor may be the coarseness of your hair.

If you are looking for a method to remove facial hair permanently, try electrolysis.  Electrolysis is the process by which facial hair is removed using electrical currents.  A trained professional, often referred to as an electrologist or electrolysist, must perform this procedure.  They take a metal probe and insert it into an individual hair follicle.  The electrical current is then delivered to the follicle, destroying it.  One the procedure is complete; the hair is removed with sterile forceps. Each hair follicle must be treated individually.  The discomfort of this process varies among clients. Some have reported feeling a slight pinprick and some have reported a more painful feeling.  As with many medical procedures, there is a chance of scarring, although it is minimal if you are using a well-trained electrologist.  But, immediately after a hair follicle is treated, there may be a small, red lesion, much like an insect bite for a short time.

While electrolysis will permanently remove the hair, it may not be instantaneous.  You may have to have several electrolysis treatments to the same hair follicle before the hair is completely removed.  This is because your hair cells grow in cycles and electrolysis only works if the hair is in its growth phase.  Many electrologists charge by the amount of time it takes to remove the hair.  Ten minutes runs about $18 and 30 minutes costs about $34.

Another form of permanent facial hair removal is laser treatments.  This is a new technology, only being offered commercially since the mid 1990s.  This may also be referred to as phototricholysis or photoepilation.  Like electrolysis, this may require several treatments before the hair is removed permanently.  The laser light also feels like a pinprick to most patients.  However, the laser treatments will not work on blonde, red, or white hairs.  It will however work on areas that electrolysis will not, such as the ears and nose.  Laser hair treatments for the upper lip normally run about $50 per session as does the chin treatments.  If you have facial hair on your cheeks, those treatments are a little more expensive – around $75 per treatment.

If you decide to do electrolysis or laser treatments for your unwanted facial hair, you should always talk to your doctor first about any pre-existing conditions you might have that would make you an unlikely candidate for these treatments.  There is no need to be ashamed of having your unwanted facial hair treated.  Do some research on the Internet to find the best way for you to have the hair removed.  There is no doubt it will make you feel better about yourself.

If you suffer from Psoriasis, you are not alone. Approximately 2-3% of the United States population suffers from this common skin ailment. That is almost 8 million people! Whether you are newly diagnosed with the condition, or have been suffering for a few years, there is relief out there. The key is to research all of your options and find a knowledgeable doctor that can help you explore your options.

Psoriasis has been known to afflict individuals of all races, sex, and age groups, though the majority of sufferers are adults. The condition begins when skin cells quickly rise from below the surface and begin to pile up on the surface before they have a chance to fully mature. While in a normal adult, the process takes about a month, a person suffering from Psoriasis can have this occur within a week. This excess growth of cells can lead to patches of thick inflamed skin, covered with silvery scales. They often itch and are very sore to the touch. Most sufferers have these patches on their elbows, knees, legs, lower back, etc.

Psoriasis can also affect fingernails, toenails, and the genitals. It is said that approximately 1 million people suffer from a condition called psoriatic arthritis, which is an inflammation of the joints.

The first step to getting treatment is to get diagnosed. Many physicians overlook Psoriasis because it appears similar to other skin diseases. There are many different forms of Psoriasis, which can range from smooth red patches to oozing lesions. The most reliable method of diagnosis involves a small skin sample. The doctor will look at it under a microscope to confirm.

Once you are diagnosed with Psoriasis, you can begin treatment. There are several different options, and depending on the severity of the condition, you may need several different mediations or treatments at a time. There are basically three different kinds of treatments available. These include topical creams, light therapy, and oral medications:

• Corticosteroids
• Calcipotriene
• Retinoid
• Coal tar
• Anthralin
• Salicylic acid
• Clobetasol propionate
• Bath solutions
• Moisturizers
• Light therapy- natural and artificial
• Immune suppressing treatments taken orally

While there is no known cure, there have been some major breakthroughs in the field of study. New medications and treatment options are popping up every day, and a cure is just right around the corner. Laser therapy has become extremely popular, and you can expect to see them integrated into your treatment plan in the near future.

The key is to find out what works for you. Many Psoriasis sufferers can benefit from group therapy. They can discuss their thoughts and feelings about having the condition, and form a support group of others going through the same problems. Online research and support groups are also very popular. The more you know about your condition, the better prepared you are for what lies ahead. So do a search on your favorite search engine and discuss your options with your doctor.

Sunless tanning is becoming very popular, there are two main reasons for this. Firstly having a good tan has become fashionable and desirable. A lot of people do not live in a place with constant sunshine and most of us cannot afford a holiday to the sun to top up our tans every month. This means that people are turning to the various methods of sunless tanning to achieve the desired result. The second reason is to do with health. It is common knowledge that regular exposure to the sun increases the risk of contracting skin cancer. Also the sun has an aging effect on skin, regular sun bathing can leave you looking older than you actually are. Sunless tanning can offer a safe way to get that bronzed look you were after without damaging your skin.

There are 4 main sunless tanning methods you can use:

1.Sunless Tanning Lotion - Sunless tanning lotions generally contain the bronzing ingredient dihydroxyacetone (DHA). This is a colourless sugar that interacts with dead skin cells causing a colour change to occur. The colour change usually lasts about 5 to 7 days from the initial application. This is a popular method of sunless tanning but it can be difficult to get an even tan.

2.Spray Tanning - The science of spray tanning is similar to tanning lotions, but the tanning solution is applied in a spray. This can either be done manually by a spray gun or automatically in a tanning booth. A new development in spray tanning is the colourless tanning solution. This solution does not contain bronzer and affords a less streaky, more even tan.

3.Tanning Beds - Tanning beds or sunbeds contain fluorescent tubes, these tubes tan the skin by emitting Ultraviolet (UV) Rays, the same type of radiation that is found in natural sunlight. These tanning beds are an effective sunless tanning method but frequent, long term usage can lead to skin cancer and skin aging.

4.Tanning Pills - Tanning pills come in three varieties: Those that contain caretenoid pigments, those that contain tyrosine and those with no active ingredients. Caretenoid pills contain a pigment which, when taken internally saturates the fat layers just below the skin, which appears to give the skin colour. These pills can change the colour of your skin but the results are often undesirable. The colouration can look unnatural and tends to be concentrated in fatty areas leaving an uneven effect. The other 2 types of tanning pill are not proven to have any effect on the colour of your skin.

Generally the best method of sunless tanning is the spray tan, or if you can not get to a tanning salon you can use a tanning lotion. There are a wide variety of sunless tanning products available so some experimentation may be necessary to find one which you are comfortable using and which works with your skin type. Tanning beds are effective but they have similar risks to conventional sunbathing. Tanning pills are best avoided unless you know exactly what they contain and what the effect will be on your skin.

Do you love the look of sun kissed skin, but worry about the long term ramifications of tanning? If so then you are not alone. For years there has been quite a bit of talk about tanning, and you may be confused by what you hear. So unless you plan to spend the summer looking like a ghost, it is important that you learn what is safe and what isn’t in the wide world of tanning.

First, I want to stress that baking in the sun is out! Every time you go outside you are exposing your skin to the elements and risking damage and premature aging. It doesn’t matter how old you are, your skin type, or your location. Sun block with a SPF of at least 15 is a must for everyone. Apply it at least 30 minutes before leaving the house, and reapply often. Once again- lying out in the sun is not an option. If you do, you can look forward to:

• Getting wrinkly skin prematurely
• Getting sunburned or blistered
• Getting skin cancer

In fact, every year over 60,000 new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed, mostly due to unsafe tanning practices.

Doesn’t sound like something that you want to experience? Well you aren’t alone. The next option you have is tanning beds. While tanning beds offer you a bit more control over your exposure rate, they still aren’t a valid option. The sheer act of tanning is damaging to your skin. So I would skip the tanning beds and search for something less damaging.

So what else is there?

Self tanners are perhaps your safest and best bet. Now, if you tried some of these products a few years back you may be skeptical about going back. Products of yesterday used to be streaky and fake looking. Luckily technology has played a huge role in the self-tanning market and has allowed manufacturers to create a product that rivals the look of a sun-kissed tan. The trick is to find a quality product and learn to apply it correctly.

Some tips for getting a perfect self-tanner tan are:

• Exfoliate! Basically what this means is remove the dead skin cells that can dull your complexion. Dead skin cells will suck up the self tanner and leave you looking streaky. You can purchase a loofah or exfoliation cream at any beauty supply store. One hot shower and a bit of scrubbing will leave your skin in perfect condition for self-tanner application.

• Make sure your skin is dry before application. Many people are quick to start applying the self tanner right after they exfoliate. This will lead to a blotchy result that will look unnatural. So step away from the shower, dry off thoroughly, and go watch a sitcom or two. That way you will be dry and ready to get a perfect tan.

• Buy a brand that you can see when you apply. There are many things that you will want to look for when choosing a brand. Finding one that is easy to see when you apply it will help prevent over application or missed spots. You can always go back and do touch ups once it has dried, but colored creams or lotions will help make your job a bit easier.

• Use gloves to prevent streaky hands. No one has to know that you self-tan! Prevent streaky odd colored hands by using surgical gloves when applying the tanner. Your palms will come out the right shade, and you won’t have to explain yourself for a week afterwards.

• Use less product on knees and elbows for even color. Your joints are usually drier and tend to suck up more self tanner than other areas of your body. Apply less tanner to these areas for an even look. Exfoliation will also help a bit, but always work on the side of caution.

Still scared to do it yourself? Consider a professionally done spray on tan. The concept is simple; you strip down to the bare minimum and then enter a shower type stall. Most tanning salons have such devices and the shower will then spray your entire body for an all over sun kissed glow. Some salons will allow you to do it yourself, or have the treatment done by another. Once the spray on tan solution has been applied, you want to let it dry completely before putting your clothing back on.

Good luck, and get ready to start getting compliments on your sun kissed glow!

The SAE aims to instruct the people engage in indoor tanning so that they become trained professionals. It will educate tanning bed users so that they will use the indoor tanning technology responsibly and moderately. At the same time, the association will release scientifically-based information about indoor tanning so that it can equalize the biased negative view of using tanning beds.

Members of the SAE are well-informed about the FDA regulations, the potential benefits and risks of exposure to ultraviolet radiation, the importance of eye protection and other tanning accessories, the concept of photosensitivity, the proper maintenance of tanning beds and tanning booths, and the ethical management of a tanning center.

Specifically, a trained professional of the SAE will advocate the following practices:

1. Provide the clients of tanning salons a consent form before they use either the bed or the booth. These forms should be carefully read and then signed by each customer.

2. Deny any request made by clients to stay inside a tanning unit longer than what is suggested by the manufacturing unit. Overexposure to ultraviolet radiation can increase the potential risks of tanning.

3. Advise clients to always wear tanning goggles. Any person who insists on not using the protective eye wear will be refused by the trained professional and by the tanning salon.

4. Post on a clearly visible part of the salon all the necessary precautionary reminders and warning signage. The patrons of the salon should easily see and read the messages of these signage.

5. Display an accurate, complete, and updated chart of photosensitizing agents. The chart should be readily understandable. If a client has questions about the chart, the SAE professional should be on hand to answer the questions as best as he could.

6. Utilize tanning beds, tanning booths, accessories, and replacement bulbs that are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Any equipment or accessory that does not comply with the standards of the FDA should not be used.

7. Purchase and use cleaning agents or sanitizing solutions that are specially manufactured for the tanning equipment. The us of inappropriate solutions, like a bleach, may damage the parts of the tanning bed or tanning booth.

The practices of SAE professionals are commendable and they contribute greatly in making indoor tanning a safe process.

Hairstyles are every bit as important for men as it is for women. We can see the latest fashions and hairstyles for men by watching the academy awards and the Oscars. We can also see the latest in these hairstyles on the reality shows like Blowout and Real World. As shown on Blowout, a great hairstyle can make a average person or even a ugly duckling a knockout. Jonathon does this on every episode of Blowout. Here are the great hairstyles for 2006 that are guaranteed to make you look better or at least make a statement.

Short, styled, messy with highlights. Ryan Seacrest started this do. It is an easy to maintain look and had its starts with alternative rock bands whom have taken it to more extremes (spikes, different colors, etc…) This is a very easy hairstyle to manage. Just use hair spray, mousse whatever and twist a little here and pull a little there. Some women are also using this for short styles. This easy, messy do is here to stay.

The short business cut. This has always been in. Everyone from George Bush and Jeff Gordon to Jay Leno sport this one. It can be parted to either side, brushed back or down. There are many variations. Sometimes it even looks like a bowl cut - popularized in the days of Leave it to Beaver, the Beverly Hill Billies, Green Acres and other shows that highlighted inbreeding in society.

The mullet. This big hair style of the 80’s is actually making a comeback. Wrestlers, country singers, even wanna-be stars like Kevin Federline have been seen wearing mullets. The mullet originated with car salesmen in the 1970’s. It was a fun, easy do that was business in the front and party in the back. They could tie it in a pony tail and keep it under wraps at work and then let it out for partying. There are many variations even including the rat tail (hopefully this won’t come back). There isn’t much care needed for a mullet. What would George Bush, Dr. Phil, Ryan Seacrest, or even Simon Cowell look like with a mullet? I bet ratings for American Idol would double.

The medium-long cut. Basically this is where the hair is about 3-4 inches long across the top and shortened as it comes don the back to about 1-2 inches. One just puts moose or gel in it and works it in and then comes their hair back with their fingers. This is a cut primarily for those with wavy hair as it will show off and glamorize your curls. This is a star favorite - Antonio Banderas and Tom Cruise have sported this do several times throughout their careers.

Chrome dome. Going for that shiny top, bald look. It works for muscular or dominant people. Just look at Jesse Ventura, Michael Jordan, and UFC president Dana White. It used to be only worn by those going bald, but its popularity has grown to include kids, grandparents, even women looking to make a statement. There have even been people renting out ad space on their newly shaved head for quick cash. It is also a great place to try out a tattoo. If you find you don’t like the tattoo, just let your hair grow back.

There you have it. The popular mens hairstyles of this year and numerous variants.

Wrinkles development is the classic early sign of accumulated skin damage and inevitable aging.

Premature aging and wrinkling of the skin may be accelerated by excessive exposure to the sun and other elements, overactive facial expression muscles, the frequent use of tobacco products, poor nutrition, or skin disorders.

Regardless of the cause of facial creases or folds, safe and successful treatments for reduction or elimination of these problems are now available with the help of a Facial Plastic Surgeon.

Injecting or implanting substances which either temporarily weaken the muscles or act as skin volume fillers serve to soften or eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and produce a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.

There are several tropical medicines and creams on the market that are created for the treatment of wrinkles .Of course the first key is sunscreen. If it’s light outside, no matter the cloudy factor, you need sunscreen.

Look for moisturizer with an SPF of 15 or higher. To keep wrinkles from worsening, look for products with ingredients (like Retinoids, Retin-A, Renova) that boost collagen production and prevent skin cells from breaking down. Matrixyl (found in the product Alria) is a newer ingredient that is becoming very popular and is touted as being great for sensitive skin. Alpha-hydroxy acids are common.

These are "fruit acids" and include glycolic and lactic acid. Preparations containing these fruit acids are quite safe and cause no more than mild and temporary irritation. Keep in mind that the improvements you’ll notice are relatively subtle.

To prevent skin cell breakdown, you also want products rich in antioxidants & beta-carotene. Vitamins A, C & E as well as plant, fruit, green tea, seaweed & marine extracts are all great antioxidants.

Another popular antioxidant is Prevage, a prescription cream that is made with idebenone, a synthetic antioxidant that is touted as being very effective.

Today, there are numerous hair removal methods available such as: Tweezers, Shaving, Depilatories, Waxing, Hair Inhibitors, Threading, Laser hair removal, Sugaring and Electrolysis. Which will be the best for you? All hair removal candidates would like permanent hair removal and permanent laser hair removal is the only unique solution.

Laser hair removal is gaining popularity among those looking for permanent hair removal. Nevertheless, permanent laser hair removal does not suit everyone. Before going for a laser hair removal you are recommended to go through these points.

1. Laser hair removal is best for dark hair with light skin but it does not mean that you are not the right candidate for the laser hair removal. You should visit a dermatologist before going for a laser hair removal and you should collect information on laser hair removal from the manufacturers or direct from their site. However, some dermatologists can suggest you some alternatives. If you have light color hair then artificial hair darkening is advisable followed by laser.

2. It is very important to have a consultation with a dermatologist. You should meet the technician and request him or her to perform a test pulse. You should find a clinic, which is dedicated to your needs. Laser hair removal treatment is very particular depending on the type of skin and hair. Find a clinic with a friendly and informative staff that makes you feel comfortable.

3. Avoid waxing and tweezering for at least 6 weeks before your laser hair removal treatment. You are advised not to remove hairs by the roots.

Laser hair removal is a painless process. If there is a little pain, it is certainly bearable. If you cannot bear the pain during laser hair removal you should tell your technician so that he or she can supply you with numbing creams or proper coolants. Your feedback about pain will help the technician to adjust the intensity of the laser.

However, Permanent Laser Hair Removal is one of the long lasting hair removal methods. However, re growth can occur after laser hair removal, which may be lighter in color.

Disadvantages of laser hair removal:
1) A long-term data regarding safety, effectiveness and response rate of laser hair removal has not yet been established.
2) Sometimes regrowth takes place even after laser hair removal, which indicates laser hair removal is not 100% permanent.
3) Laser hair removal is generally not effective on gray, red, blonde or unpigmented hair.
4) Laser hair removal must be used very carefully because improper treatment can cause skin discoloration, burns, lesions or patchy regrowth.
5) Laser hair removal requires eye protection and skin cautiousness.
